Yesterday was a rough day. Wednesday was a traditional weight-lifting day, so Jeff decided he needed to kick my butt on Friday. Half way through the workout, I asked if today was supposed to feel like Day 1. Here I am, two plus months into getting into shape and I am STILL feeling like it is Day 1????? For the past couple of days, I have been noticing a pain in my heel. I have it periodically, but on Friday the pain kept getting increasingly worse, to the point that I could barely walk.

Talking about feeling discouraged — I feel like this could be a setback for me. Setbacks are never fun and can be discouraging. But I just have to tell myself it will happen — stick with it and I have a very supportive husband to cheer me along — that helps, too — A LOT!

We met at the YMCA and were to do Zumba Fitness. My husband came with me and we kind of made it a date night, different from any other we have ever had, but we were together and that was fun. There was a raffle for prizes at the end, and we almost left, but decided to stay and row together on stationary rowers for a while. We hung out long enough for the drawing — and I WON!

When you get into a routine of eating right and exercising, and then are without a kitchen or you normal surroundings, bad things can happen. My trainer gave me a list of exercises that I could do in my room and I had my YMCA membership that I could use where I was traveling.

Day 1: of the trip was OK. Day 2: I did a room workout plus treadmill in the hotel gym. I did OK for most of the day when it came to the food component, but there was the miscommunication about what was meant by lite lunch-early dinner plan. I was the only one who had a lite lunch so no one wanted a early dinner but me, and I ended up overheating because I was too hungry. Not good for the last meal of the day to be the biggest! Day 3: This day equalled more travel and no time to exercise, and I was weak in the morning in the food category, but ended strong.

I was out of a hotel environment and with friends and a kitchen so I had access to better food choices! For lunch, I traveled an extra 8 miles each way for Subway for lunch instead of settling for McDonalds. For someone who likes a side of chips with her sandwich, apples are a decent replacement. And dinner was a moderate meal, but I probably ate more than I should, because, again, I got too hungry without access to snacks while working for most of the day.

Day 5: Finally, traveling home. I knew it would be a long day, so I made a point to get up early and hit the gym am on my internal clock and had a great workout on the elliptical runner…4 miles in 45 minutes. It was a personal best for me since getting back into the fitness thing Magic valley weight loss challenge 2012 winner and these are the milestones that I have to remind myself of when the scale is at a stand still, or a I slip with a bad day…I may not be perfect at this, but I have to find the small victories to not feel defeated!

If only it was as easy or as much fun to loose weight as it is to gain it! I was FIVE years old!!! I am from Louisiana where food is part of the culture. I was taught to celebrate with food, drown your sorrows with food, socialize over dinner, and eat just because it tastes good; food is a way of life there. Between my relationship with food and history of dieting from such any early age — go figure that my weight has been crazy my whole life?

Ten years ago, I decided to quit dieting and go to the gym. I got in the best shape of my life and became addicted to exercise, which is something I would never have thought possible before it happened. I reached my peak fitness, and when I wore shorts, you could see my hamstring and quad muscle of my leg — as two distinct muscles!!! I felt great and was spending 20 hours a week in the gym.
